Record number of entries at Selati race

The Selati spirit increases annually, reaching a record numbers of entries this year.

The Selati spirit increases annually, reaching a record numbers of entries this year. The very popular annual TSB Selati road race and fun run were again started with the roar of a quarter-pound cannon.

This was the 26th run of this very special event on the road-runners’ calendar which grew from the initial 80 participants in 1989 to the record 876 this year. Added to this were 1 100 participants in the fun run, comprising mainly locals.

“This means we had nearly 2 000 participants in total. This on its own is truly remarkable and can be attributed to the intensive effort by the organisers and sponsors to improve it and make it a truly remarkable experience for all participants and supporters,” said organiser Deon Valks.

Watering points again contributed to the festive atmosphere at the Selati 2-in-1 with divisions of TSB competing against one another. Two trophies were up for grabs, the winner of the first trophy determined by the runners.

All the participants in the 21km race had the opportunity to vote for their favourite water point. This trophy was again awarded to the TSB Agricultural Division.

The second, judged and awarded by the CEO of TSB, Mr John Du Plessis, was awarded to Quality Sugars, its marketing company.

The start and finish were at the Malalane Rugby Club with a festive atmosphere and branding that left no doubt about the identity of the main and named sponsors.

The finish water point was manned by Nashua Lowveld.

This year the time keeping was sponsored by Pronto Computer Solutions and performed by Protime with the help of electronic time chips. The complete results were available on the internet, even before the end of the official prize-giving ceremony. These detailed results can be viewed at www.protime.co.za
