Potholes continue to be a nuisance

In Malalane most, if not all the roads are riddled with potholes.

MALALANE – On April 17, Corridor Gazette reported on the poor condition of roads all over Nkomazi, and the rate at which potholes are appearing in towns.

In Malalane most, if not all the roads are riddled with potholes. In Komatipoort and Hectorspruit the problem is just as serious. Towns in trust areas such as KamHlushwa and Naas are also suffering from this non-delivery.

The Tonga to Naas road is still non-existent after years of construction. It was reported by locals that a protest had been held this past week to raise this issue, but that the municipality has still not made any attempt to manage these upgrades.

According to a local man the residents of Naas were unhappy with the lack of progress made with the road this past year.

He said, “That road is still just a bad gravel road, they have been working on it for years but it still has not seen tar.”

Locals allege that the contractor assigned to constructing the road, has in the meantime finished building his house in the area but has made no progress on the road.

On May 1, Corridor Gazette again reported on the matter of potholes, asking Cyril Repinga, spokesman for the municipality, when the materials for the repairs and upgrades would arrive.

He then stated that he was having difficulty reaching the responsible officer but that the materials had been ordered and were on its way. However, since then nothing has changed.

This publication again attempted to speak to Repinga regarding the matter but he was unable to comment at the time.
