No name change decision yet

The business chamber and AfriForum have not yet decided if they would appeal against the verdict that saw Nelspruit's name change to Mbombela.

MBOMBELA – The Kruger Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism (KLCBT) and AfriForum have not yet decided whether they would appeal the court decision that saw Nelspruit’s name change to Mbombela stand.

Two weeks ago the Pretoria High Court rejected the chamber’s application to have the name change, which was gazetted in 2010, set aside. AfriForum has indicated that it considered the name change unnecessary and was considering appealing against the decision.

This week, Mr Ruan Lottering, AfriForum’s provincial coordinator in Mpumalanga, said it was estimated that the name change would cost the municipality R450 million. They intended taking more time to study the verdict before coming to a decision about whether or not to appeal.

They have 60 days (until July 9) to appeal the verdict.
