PLASTON – Pedestrians and motorists were shocked when a car burst into flames at the four-way stop near the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport on Friday just before 16:00.
According to an officer of Mbombela Traffic Control, it was notified of the incident but when officials arrived at the scene, the driver of the vehicle had already left.
Bystanders said the driver had managed to climb out of the car before he was injured and left to find a tow truck to remove it from the road.
The wreckage stood abandoned as weekend traffic inched around the barrier set up by the officer, who remained on the scene until the driver had returned.
