Husband gets 15 years for attacking wife with hammer

He had attacked Ms Francis Cruywagen (53) with a hammer on June 21, 2011. A year later, she requested euthanasia in Holland due to the injuries she had sustained.

MBOMBELA – “He does not acknowledge the offence and does not see his actions caused the victim to take her own life.” This was said by probation officer Ms Agnes Mokoena during the sentencing of Edwin Cruywagen who was previously found guilty of the attempted murder of his wife.

Magistrate Ms Sheila Msibi sentenced him to 15 years imprisonment on Monday. She stated this was not an ordinary case of attempted murder as the victim had taken her life due to these circumstances.

“Society is looking to the court to send a clear message that women and children should be protected.”
