Man gets 10 years for kicking wife to death

Two years after murdering his wife during a jealous argument, a man was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment.

MBOMBELA – A man of Hazyview was sentenced to 10 years for kicking his wife, Bongiwe Mathebula (24) to death in front of their five-year-old son on April 27, 2012. Raymond Fanny Mathebula (27) of Mahushu Trust appeared in the local Regional Court on Wednesday. Mathebula pleaded guilty to the charge of murder.

The incident occurred at their home during a jealous argument. Magistrate Mr André Geldenhuys stated the child would be stuck with this violent memory for ever.

According to Geldenhuys, reading three reports in court, they all had different views on what sentence had to be given to the offender.

He concluded by stating that the courts needed to send a stronger message to offenders that violence against women and children would not be tolerated.
