Rapist gets two life sentences

“Its barbaric to say the least. You must be removed from society.”

MBOMBELA – A man was given two life sentences for breaking into the homes of two women (one elderly) and brutally raping them. Mduduzi Mnguni (27) appeared in the Nelspruit Regional Court on two charges of housebreaking with the intent to rape and two counts of rape on Wednesday.

Magistrate Mr Willie Wilkens found him guilty on all charges and sentenced him to two life sentences for rape and 10 years for housebreaking.

Mnguni who is from Pienaar had broken into the house of the first victim (49) and raped her on November 10, 2010. While he was out on bail for this offence, he broke into his neighbour’s house on August 11, 2012 and raped the 85 year-old woman.

“When you broke into the houses of the women, you intruded and invaded their privacy. You broke open the roof of the one house and the window of the other.”

Wilkens said the victims thought they were safe in their own homes. He added that, why on earth Mnguni would decide to rape a senior citizen, only he would know.

“Its barbaric to say the least. You must be removed from society.”
