If you can sleep snug in fuzzy blankets on a cold night or wrap yourself in a warm coat, you are one of the luckiest people in South Africa. Many spend the winter months trying to survive the bitter cold, with not even a spoonful of soup to warm them up and keep them nourished.
This year Checkers and Shoprite have teamed up with Community Chest to encourage customers to open their hearts and give a bit of warmth, love and hope to those in need. This countrywide collection campaign is supported by various community radio stations that are committed to the improvement of disadvantaged communities.
Checkers and Shoprite customers can contribute to this cause by placing clothes, blankets and non-perishable foods in the marked trolleys at the entrance of all Checkers, Checkers Hyper and Shoprite stores. You can also ask your cashier to add a donation amount to your bill’s total when paying for groceries at till points or SMS WARMHEARTS10 and your name to 38806 to donate R10.
Community Chest, the beneficiary of this project, is a non-profit organisation with a national footprint, which allows them to distribute goods in communities where it is most needed. They aim to advance, empower and care by combining human value with available resources in order to have a positive social impact where it is most needed.
All items collected will be distributed to needy communities across the country through Community Chest’s integrated network. Commit to the upliftment of underprivileged communities by making a difference and donating today. Donations will be accepted until August 15.
