Suspects accused of murder denied bail

TONGA – Murder accused Siyabonga Masilela (24) and Ndumiso Mahlalela (21) have been denied bail and will be remanded in custody until their high court appearance.
This was the decision of the Tonga Magistrate’s Court on July 23.
They have both been charged with murder, attempted murder, housebreaking, theft, robbery with aggravating circumstances and possession of unlicensed firearms.
Masilela has been in police custody since he was apprehended on February 13, but Mahlalela was able to evade the police for a while longer and was arrested in March. They have also appeared in the Malalane Periodical Court on charges of theft.
SAPS spokesman Const Nomsa Lephoko said, “The two suspects were apprehended earlier this year but due to further investigations that linked them to other crimes, their bail applications were being postponed.”
Lt Nzwandine Nyambi informed Corridor Gazette that they had been denied bail and that the trial would commence on August 22.
