MBOMBELA – The police has undertaken an inquest after a 19-year-old pupil of Cefups Academy has died after allegedly being beaten with a sjambok.
It couldn’t be confirmed at this stage whether the girl took the beating at the school.
The girl was brought to Mediclinic Nelspruit on Thursday by her guardian who apparently told hospital personnel that she had been beaten with a sjambok.
Her injuries were severe and she was admitted to ICU. She died later that night.
Capt Dawie Pretorius, local police spokesman, on enquiry said that they have launched an inquest and that a post portem will be performed on the deceased early next week.
Cefups made headlines in 2012 when three boarding masters of Cefups were found guilty of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.
Jaconia Nkosi, Henry Mphokane and Nhlanhla Mazibuko had betean Musa Nkambule, Tsholofelo Matabane, Hawick Miquen and Tshepo Ndlovu who attended a beauty pageant at the school on April 21 that year.
The four were not pupils of the school, but related to gr. 11 pupil Nothando Kenny.
