MBOMBELA -The police are now officially investigating a murder after the death of Cefups Academy pupil, Paballo Seane (19) last week.
Only an inquest was initially registered after Seane’s death last Thursday, but police confirmed yesterday that they were now investigating a murder case.
Seane died at Mediclinic Nelspruit after she had allegedly been beaten with a sjambok. She was brought to the hospital on Thursday and died that same day. However, it is suspected that she had sustained the wounds two days before.
Provincial police spokesman Brig Selvy Mohlala said the inquest had been changed to a murder case to increase the police’s scope into their investigation. “We have taken statements from learners and the principal”.
He stated the police still awaited the post-mortem report and forensics results. Mpumalanga Department of Education spokesman Mr Jasper Zwane said their investigation into Seane’s death would be finalised today. “The HOD, Ms Mohlasedi Mhlabane had immediately sent an investigative team to the school to determine exactly what had happened and to ensure that the perpetrators were brought to book.
