TONGA – Police are appealing to the community to assist with information which could lead to the apprehension of people responsible for a number of house robberies.
This came to light on Tuesday September 16, after three armed men gained entry into the house of the Nkomazi Local Municipal Speaker, Mr Jakie Macie (38), on Monday night.
Macie was asleep with his wife when he heard his bedroom door being opened and suddenly three men barged into the room.
One of the suspects pointed a gun at him and told him they had been sent to kill him. They demanded a firearm from Macie who told them he didn’t own one.
Macie and his wife were tied up and the suspects begun searching the house for valuables. They took an undisclosed amount of cash, Cavella shoes, Dell laptop, five cellphones, Lacoste sneakers, an iPad, two suits, a pair of shoes, and bank cards.
They fled in the victims’ Volkswagen Jetta.
They allegedly withdrew an undisclosed amount of cash from with the cards they stole, and the getaway vehicle was later recovered near Tonga.
Meanwhile in a separate incident, two unknown suspects who entered a 29-year-old woman’s house at Mafambisa in Naas, are also still at large. The victim was asleep with her two children when she awoke, finding someone throttling her. She screamed for help but was told to shut her mouth.
One suspect put a knife to her throat and demanded money. She gave them an undisclosed amount of cash, and they took her cellphone.
Both men proceeded to rape her, before they fled.
