SAPS Constable accused of stealing laptop from premier’s office

Police official appears in Mbombela Magistrate's Court on a charge of theft

A constable in the employ of the Mbombela SAPS appeared in the local Magistrate’s Court on a theft charge today after being arrested on Friday.
Const Promise Mashego (27) was arrested by SAPS after it was alleged that he had stolen an Apple MacBook from the Office of the Premier of Mpumalanga, Mr David Mabuza.
The Mbombela Police Station has confirmed that closed circuit television camera footage from the office portrayed the accused, dressed in his official SAPS uniform, taking a laptop into his possession.
The laptop in question’s estimated value amounts to R28 500.
The trial has been postponed to October 28 and the accused has been released on R1 000 bail.
