Brothers engage in gun battle

Setati confirmed that the suspect had appeared in the Mecklenburg Magistrate's Court on a charge of attempted murder on September 22 and was granted R2 000 bail.

MECKLENBURG – The local police arrested a 44-year-old man for the alleged attempted murder on his brother Mr Jacob Mabanna (61). The incident occurred on Saturday September 20 at Ga Mapea Village.

Spokesman for Mecklenburg police, Const Elias Mmatlou Setati, told Steelburger/Lydenburg News that according to the information they had received, Mr Lazarus Mabanna entered Jacob’s home and started to shoot at him. Lazarus was using a 9mm Norinco pistol during the incident.

Setati confirmed that the suspect had appeared in the Mecklenburg Magistrate’s Court on a charge of attempted murder on September 22 and was granted R2 000 bail.

He was expected to reappear in court on November 24. The police were still investigating the incident.

His brother was currently receiving medical care at the Mecklenburg Hospital.
