Human trafficking trial scheduled to resume today

Closing arguments to be presented to the Graskop Magistrate's Court.

GRASKOP –  the cross-examination of the accused drew to a close yesterday in their human trafficking trial in the Graskop Magistrate’s Court.

Mr Lloyd Mabuza (60) and co-accused Ms Violet Chauke (20) are charged with rape and human trafficking for sexual purposes.  They allegedly held five girls captive for four years after luring them into captivity with promises of a better life and educational opportunities.

According to witnesses’ testimonies, the girls were half dressed, starved and living in appalling conditions while in captivity with the accused.

The state completed the cross-examination of Mabuza yestarday, while Chauke was not called for cross-examination as the defence closed their case.

Closing arguments are scheduled to commence today.
