Challenges by the bucket
Participants can accept the challenge from other businesses and take part by having a bucket of water and ice poured over them, or donate to an ALS charity, or both.
MBOMBELA – The Lowveld is usually branded as the Slowveld, because we do things slowly and in small scale, but this is your chance to step it up.
Local businesses have decided to challenge one another to the Ice Bucket Challenge (IBC). This needs no introduction as people from across the world have been promoting awareness about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or more commonly known as motor neuron disease (MND). But, this is going to be an IBC with a difference.
Participants can accept the challenge from other businesses and take part by having a bucket of water and ice poured over them, or donate to an ALS charity, or both. Even though the gist generally is to take on the challenge within 24 hours, businesses have until October 10 to accept the challenge which will be hosted at Bagdad Centre just outside White River.
The numerous companies in Mbombela that have each challenged three similar companies within their respective industries are available on in the list below. This will hopefully inspire more to participate in this event. The aim is to get a large number involved as well as making donations to the charities. The goal is to take this to national level with the total of companies and of funds donated and as a city challenge other cities in South Africa to do the same.
To date no cities have done this on such a big scale and thus it poses the opportunity for Mbombela to take the high ground.
About 20 companies have already agreed, and in turn, are challenging three companies each. Realty 1, Melco, Junxion Communication, Curves, Swift, BVK Chartered Accountants, Heidel Eggs, Nozihle cleaning, Guardian Angels, Signbird, J&M Security, I’langa Mall, Bed Mat, ATTI, Dante Personnel, Canary Walk Mall, Trip Wired, Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), Pinnacle Building, Bar Print, Suzuki Nelspruit, Total Steiltes and Nashua have chosen to participate.
Those who participate are not obligated to make any donations. Junxion Communication, the organiser of the event, wants to prove that Mbombela’s businesses can stand together.
The aim is to get about 50 companies to participate so that other cities can be challenged with confidence.
Here is a list of all the companies and their nominations:
