Community taught ways to stay out of financial wreck
The programme has been helping older people nationally and now targets school pupils.
RIBA CROSS – The Financial Literacy Programme recenlty embarked on a project to give free financial advice and food to local learners. The project educates pupils from various schools in the area about ways to manage money and to stay out of debt. Hungry students also get free foods from the project. Lehlaba Secondary School was one of the schools that benefited from the opportunity to get free financial advice.
“We invited facilitators of the Financial Literacy Programme to come and educate our community on how to handle or avoid financial problems. It is good for these pupils to learn about this because they will be able to make good decisions in the future,” said organiser, Valencia Malatjie of the Bokamoso Educational Project.
The programme has been helping older people nationally and now targets school pupils. They also visited Batau, Lehlarotsi and Lehlaba high schools. It is said to be giving financial freedom to those earning less. This project was established after realising that most people can’t manage their money and they end up in trouble. It is aimed at educating people about ways to save, ways to boost income and guidance on how to deal with debts.
“We offered a three-day course to each of the schools we visited and we gave pupils certificates after completion thereof. We also provide them with food at the end of every session,” said the programme facilitator Monett Masela.
