Police catch robbers who brutally assaulted resident

Police had a great success this week with the capture and arrest of the two suspects who attacked and robbed Ms Pinky Strydom (87) two weekends ago.

The suspected robbers (aged 21 and 27) overpowered and assaulted Strydom in her house on October 11, leaving her injured and helpless. She was found two days later by her grandson and rushed to hospital.

The two suspects were apprehended in Mgcoboneni Trust in Masoyi on Monday after police received a tip-off from community members. Several of Strydom’s stolen items were found in their possession.

The case was heard in the White River Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, with the men charged with, among others, attempted murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Their bail application was postphoned to Tuesday, October 28.
