No problems in province on first day of exams

Contact 013-766-0429 if your child displays worrying behaviour during the examination period.

The provincial Department of Education has expressed its satisfaction with the way in which the grade 12 final examinations commenced today. No issues were reported throughout the province, said spokesman Mr Jasper Zwane.

“The department is hopeful that the same trend will unfold until the last day of the examinations,” Zwane said. The department reiterated its call on communities and parents to support their children and ensure that there is nothing that distracts them from studying.

The department has also established a team to offer psychological guidance and support for learners and their parents, should it be required. Zwane advised parents in Ehlanzeni to contact Dr Mdhluli on 013-766-0429 if they observed any of the following symptoms in their children:

• Non-participation in routine activities
• Irritability
• Negative thoughts
• Physical pains
• Sleeping disorders
• Eating disorders
• Conversations about killing or harming themselves
• Acting recklessly
• Calling or visiting people to say goodbye
• Belittling themselves
• Emotional unstability.
