CROCODILE GORGE – Trans African Concessions (TRAC) apologises for the heavy delays experienced at the Stop/Go between here and Malalane on the N4 Toll Route this morning.
The traffic backlog was caused by labour protest action against Raubex (the company contracted by TRAC to construct this section of the road). Approximately 70 temporary Raubex employees, and their supporters, blockaded the Stop/Go with stones, tyres and other paraphernalia causing a deadlock in traffic on both the Eastbound and Westbound lanes, as well as at the Matsulu intersection.
“When TRAC was notified of the situation we immediately alerted the relevant law enforcement authorities and dispatched our TRACAssist and Accident Response teams to the scene. Congested traffic started clearing within an hour of our 24-hour Helpdesk receiving the first related call,” says Ms Solange Soares, spokesman for TRAC.
“Although the labour dispute was not directed at TRAC, but rather at one of our contractors, we will nevertheless assist the parties find an amicable solution as this is in the best interest of our road users and the communities we serve as the concessionaires of the N4 Toll Route,” says Soares.
