MBOMBELA -Mr Paul Ramaloko, spokesman for the Hawks, today confirmed that Maj Gen Simon Mapyane, former provincial head of the Hawks is no longer in his position.
This comes after Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) last week embarked on a sit-in at the provincial offices of the Hawks over their members’ various gripes, including the lack of action taken against Mapyane since his arrest in May of last year. Mapyane faces charges of fraud related to travel claims and is due back in court next month.
He was moved to the Hawks’ head office on Friday after the sit-in gained Popcru management a meeting with the national Hawks head, Lt Gen Anwa Dramat.
Ramaloko says that the decision for the move was a mutual one between Mapyane and Dramat.
