Theft at Mall
“I was walking towards my car that was parked near the taxi rank when two men pushed me from behind".
BURGERSFORT – Two female shoppers have been robbed at the Tubatse Crossing Mall in separate incidents recently.
Ms Nadine van Zyl told Steelburger/Lydenburg News that while visiting the First National Bank (FNB) ATM inside the mall to draw money, two men approached her from behind and grabbed her bank card. “Luckily, I pressed cancel before the transaction could be processed. They fled with my card,” she said. She could not identify the two suspects because they came from behind.
There was another incident on October 28 when Ms Debby Grant was buying groceries at the mall. “I was walking towards my car that was parked near the taxi rank when two men pushed me from behind. I fell to the ground and they grabbed my handbag and groceries. Both of them fled on foot, but I could not identify them because they attacked me from behind. I reported the incident to the local police, but no case was filed as I could not identify my assailants.” She added that she bruised her arm and sprained her foot during the attack. An elderly couple assisted her on the scene.
Mr Jan Oosthuizen, owner of National Guarding responsible for the security at the mall, said there was security at every entrance as well as security officers patrolling inside and around the mall. “We have security officers ready to assist citizens with any crisis. We are also busy with training to improve their skills for the holiday season and two police officers will also patrol the mall during the holidays to ensure safety. If any situation in and around the mall occurs where people don’t feel save, they must report it to a security officer,” he urged.
