Mother accused of murdering own child: High Court verdict postponed to next year

Judge Peter Mabuse postponed the case to allow for the compiling of a pre-sentencing report.

MBOMBELA –  The Circuit Local Division of the Eastern Circuit District of the High Court of South Africa will pass a verdict in the murder trial of Mawande Nokwanda Matsebula (23) today.

She was charged with ill-treatment, neglect and murder after her son, Siphosethu Mhlanga,  died at the age of three years and 11 months old.  He was allegedly assaulted and died from a loss of blood that resulted from the injuries incurred during the assault. It is alleged that his mother assaulted him by hitting him with her bare hands and a stick and kicking him.

Judge Peter Mabuse postponed the case to January 15, 2015. Phsycological reports will now be obtained on the accused.
