Chaos on R40: One dies, two seriously injured

The friends stood in disbelief as they watched how his body was removed from the scene.

MBOMBELA – One person has died and two, in critical condition, were rushed to hospital in two separate motor vehicle accidents today. Both accidents took place on the R40 (Madiba Drive), hardly a kilometer apart.

Cars pilled up as medical personnel rushed to the first scene where the driver of a blue Toyota Tazz was killed. According to friends of the deceased, the car’s bonnet apparently flew open, forcing him to stop.  The friends stood in disbelief as they watched how his body was removed from the scene. They told the paper that a domino effect was created as a grey Mahindra slammed into a white Chevrolet that was ‘parked’ behind the tazz in the fast lane. According to the driver of the Mahidra, he tried to change lanes and as he checked his blind spot, he hit the white car in front of him.

In the second accident, one person sustained serious injuries and another was treated on the scene as a truck collided with the car they were traveling in. They allegedly broke into a car that was parked in front of McDonalds at Crossings and was fleeing the scene when they skipped the red traffic light, resulting in the accident.
