Samancor Chrome to pay R2million for health offence

The conviction follows a plea agreement that was entered into between the State and Samancor Chrome Limited.

STEELPOORT – Samancor Chrome Limited was recently fined R2 million for illegally disposing waste material containing chrome and hazardous substances whilst it was still under ownership of Anglo American and BHP Billiton.

The Green Scorpions of the National Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) secured this conviction in the Lydenburg Magistrates Court recently in the matter between the State vs Samancor Chrome Limited.

The conviction follows a plea agreement that was entered into between the State and Samancor Chrome Limited.

Several attempts were made to contact Samancor for comment, but were still not received by the time of going to press.
