Positive changes on the horison for Hazyview

A community meeting, to be arranged for the end of the month, will be the first step towards cleaning up the town.

Residents have grown increasingly fed up with issues like illegal stalls, the litter they generate and lights that do not work.

The Hazyview Chamber of Business and Tourism (HCBT) has held several meetings with the relevant authorities to see which issues could be addressed and how it can be done, as this severely affects tourism.

A recent meeting between the HCBT and town manager seems to have put things into motion.

According to Mr Chris Harvie of the HCBT, Mr Lucas Mdulu (town manager) was very informative and enthusiastic, and a meeting between all the stakeholders such as municipal departments, shop owners, SAPS and taxi and hawkers associations was proposed.

It will lead to the founding of Operation New Year’s Resolution, which will concentrate on service delivery by the Mbombela Local Municipality and on enforcing building regulations and by-laws.

Issues that will be adressed include:

  • Removal of illegal stalls and food outlets
  • Municipal Market – new hawker stalls
  • Truck stops
  • Parks, gardens and litter
  • Prostitution
  • Lights in town and residential area
  • Storm water drainage
  • Stray dogs and cattle
  • Tarring gravel roads
  • Potholes

Harvie encourages the community to support the project and adopt a positive attitude towards the municipality.

The date for the proposed meeting will be communicated to the parties involved as soon as all the necessary arrangements have been made.
