Fetus dumped at sewerage works
A local medical doctor in town said that it is possible that the baby could have been viable should it had received medical attention.

LYDENBURG – A five month old fetus was found on Friday dumped amongst sewerage and waste at extension 2.Municipal workers made this gruesome discovery when they were busy with repairs at the sewerage works. The workers immediately contacted the police. The fetus was still attached to the umbilical cord and placenta. It was taken to Bushbuckridge for an autopsy.
A local medical doctor in town said that it is possible that the baby could have been viable should it had received medical attention. He said that this is definitely not a home or hospital delivery as the placenta is still attached to the baby. “It has well formed skin and the probability is there that the baby could have been born alive.” He said that an autopsy should revealed whether this is the case or not.
