The fuel price is set to decrease at midnight

Here are five ways in which it will affect you - for the better.

It has been announced that for the second month in succession the retail price of 95-grade petrol will drop. On Wednesday motorists can look forward to paying 69 cents a litre less than the day before. The price of wholesale diesel will also decrease by 53 cents, illuminating paraffin by 49 cents and LP gas by 21 cents.

This is good news. Here are some ways it will affect you:

1) Petrol will now cost R12.47 a litre inland, while diesel goes down to R11.31 per litre meaning that a person with a 50-litre fuel tank will save close to R200 per month based on a single tank per week.

2) Transport companies will have lower fuel costs, which mean goods and services are not likely to see a hefty increase.

3) At a time when load-shedding is very real, lower fuel costs mean that during a blackout it will cost less to power your generator.

4) The price of public transport is not likely to increase.

5) If you’re driving anywhere this festive period, you’re in for a substantial saving. Let’s assume that a trip to the KZN coast will be around 1 400km. An average vehicle does around 8.0-litres/100km, meaning your trip will cost you between R60 and R80 less, which can be used towards paying tolls.
