Man alleges he is trapped in his home because of a leaking sewer
An unhappy Lydenburg resident, Mr Jan Oberholzer, says the sewer seepage into his yard has prevented him from leaving his house
LYDENBURG – An unhappy Lydenburg resident, Mr Jan Oberholzer, says the sewer seepage into his yard has prevented him from leaving his house.
This started on Saturday and Thaba Chweu Municipality (TCM) was immediately informed.
“We called them, they came on Saturday to fix the spill but on Sunday it started again,” he said.
According to Oberholzer, “I don’t own a pair of boots that I can use to wade through the water and my car is stuck in the backyard because it is too slippery to drive,” he explained.
“My furniture in the lapa is wet, it could be damaged and will not be the same after this,” said the worried man.
When TCM was contacted, the municipal spokesman Mr Puleng Mapheto said the municipality was not aware of the issue. “We were not informed about the problem but the technical department will attend to it,” he said.
“As the municipality we would like to urge community members not to throw foreign objects into the sewerage system because they cause blockage,” he added.
After Steelburger/Lydenburg News contacted TCM the leakage was fixed.
