DA opens new branch in town

The Democratic Alliance launched a new branch in Ward 1 on November 22.

Residents of the ward turned up in numbers to lend their support to the DA’s new branch. The aim of the branch is to have better representation in communities at grass-roots level and give them the opportunity of being involved in the future of their community and country.

Service delivery in both urban and rural areas is top priority of the branch and the diversity of its members will ensure proper representation in all areas.

The following branch executives were nominated and elected: Thami Nkosi (branch chairman), Jason Knight (deputy chairman), Christine Hall (secretary), Gcina Matlaki (DA youth) and Magda Campher (DA women networking). Several additional members were also elected.

Upon taking up his post, Nkosi said, “As chairman of the DA branch, my main task is to improve the standard of service delivery and put a stop to the favouritism shown to only a select few members of the community, as the leading party does. I want the people of Ward 1 to have faith in the DA and I am going to work hard at stopping the seemingly endless corruption.”

DA MP Sonja Boshoff also attended the launch and described the current parliamentary circumstances and outlined the party’s stance on various issues.

Mr Ken Robertson, councillor in the Mbombela Local Municipality and the DA representative in wards 1, 3 and 25 was very happy with the branch executives and believed that an even stronger opposition in Hazyview would enforce accountability in the relevant municipal departments.

The DA has also set its sights on winning the ward in the next elections and ultimately alleviating the pressures of poverty-stricken communities. “We are fighting for fairness and accountability and Ward 1 must be a DA ward,” Robertson said.
