Mother expresses anguish over missing daughter

Three-year-old Rina has not been seen since Sunday November 30

LYDENBURG – The mother of a missing girl, Ms Martha Mosotho, is in a fragile state and fears her daughter has come to harm. Three-year-old Rina has not been seen since Sunday November 30.

Now her family is searching for her, as well as for answers as to why she has gone missing.

Mosotho said Rina went missing while she was playing with her friends at Spoelklippies Farm near Verlorenkloof. Since then, they have been searching for her but to no avail.

The little girl’s mother could not hold back her tears during the interview with Steelburger/Lydenburg News.

“I can’t believe this is happening, my little girl is missing and I don’t have any idea of her whereabouts and I fear for her safety,” said Mosotho.

“My baby was not wearing warm clothes, it rained on Sunday and she was last seen wearing a pair of leggings, a T-shirt and pink sandals

“I feel someone took my daughter because my little girl is well spoken.

“She would have screamed or shouted if it was an animal that had taken her,” she explained. The mother said she last saw her daughter on Saturday. One of her relatives had fetched Rina for a visit since the little girl said she missed her younger sister who lived on the farm with her grandparents.

“Before she left I bought her a cake so that she could share with her friends and family when she arrived at the farm,” she explained.

According to Mosotho, she had a feeling that something was wrong after she had received a phone call informing her that one of her family members had died.

“After I received the news I immediately called to check if my little girl was well taken care of and they told me that she was outside playing,” she added. Later she received a phone call informing her that they couldn’t find little Rina.

“I had the shock of my life when they called me later to inform me that they couldn’t find her,” said Martha.

An SAPS rescue team and the community have been called to assist with the search. Capt Pottie Potgieter says they will not stop searching for the missing girl until they

find her.

“We will keep searching until we find her, we won’t stop,” said Potgieter. At the time of going to print, Rina had not been found.
