A woman (55) was hacked to death and a man (18) severely injured when their 25 year-old family member went on a rampage with a panga in Mariti on Saturday.
According to police, the man accused his brother and mother of bewitching him, shortly before attacking them.
The murder took place in Madras Village, Mariti, Bushbuckridge and police arrived on the scene to find the woman hacked to death and the man with multiple stab wounds all over his body. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the man was rushed to hospital for treatment.
The suspect was arrested at the scene of the crime and will be appearing in the Mkhuhlu Magistrate’s Court tomorrow on charges of murder and attempted murder.
Acting Provincial Commissioner, Maj. Genl. Meshack Nogwanya expressed his concern regarding the incident. “Whenever there are misunderstandings or any allegations within families, they must gather together and solve the issues or seek professional assistance than attacking one another,” he stated.
