MBOMBELA – With the festive season upon us, Trans African Concessions (TRAC) is preparing to accommodate the escalating traffic volumes on the N4.
December is traditionally one of the busiest times of the year on the N4 Toll Route as thousands of motorists travel between Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Mozambique. It is therefore imperative that as concessionaires of this road, TRAC facilitates the implementation of road-safety measures and the availability of 24-hour rapid, roadside assistance and response.
This year the initiative is called the TRAC N4 Travel Safely December Campaign which officially starts on December 12 and ends on January 12. During the month-long campaign, it will promote road safety through various media and hold two activations at Alzu Petroport in Middelburg.
The first activation will take place on December 12 and will see emergency services stationed at this popular rest stop from 10:00 to 22:00. From there they will be dispatched simultaneously in the event of an incident or accident, thus decreasing response time to emergencies. The participating emergency services include ambulances, paramedics, fire and rescue, provincial traffic, pathology units, TRAC Accident Response, TRAC Helpdesk and TRAC Road Assist Response.
Smaller response units will also be deployed at strategic points on the toll route, namely Bronkhorstspruit, Middelburg, Milly’s and Mbombela, in an effort to enhance incident/accident response time even more.
The second activation will be held on December 24 – again at Alzu Petroport – from 08:00 to 18:00. TRAC’s partnership with Alzu Petroport for this initiative will also see the management of this renowned rest stop hold a competition for N4 Toll Route road users during this period. Some fantastic prizes can be won. More information in this regard is available on TRAC’s Facebook page – TRACN4 Toll Route.
The campaign will be led by TRACAssist and the TRAC Helpdesk, which will act as the communications hub. The help desk is usually the first to be alerted of incidents on the road and therefore plays a vital role in this initiative. Operators will be on duty throughout the campaign to notify and call out the emergency services teams from the central dispatch area and to keep motorists, media and all relevant parties up to speed on the situation off and on the road.
Because of the heavy traffic en route to the Lebombo Border Post in Komatipoort, TRAC will also work hand in hand with the Lebombo Border Control Operational Coordinating Committee and help with management measures. This is in a bid to prevent major delays and disruptions on the N4, close to, and at, the border itself.
TRAC will assist through the provision of several logistical requirements and by issuing traffic-control information fliers to motorists.
The safety and well-being of the users of N4 Toll Route is TRAC’s primary concern and we urge everyone using our beautiful road in this period, to make full use of this initiative by calling the TRAC Helpdesk on 0800-8722-64 for a quick and immediate response to any problem.
