Police clamp down on crime in Msholozi

There was a visible police presence in Msholozi over the weekend as officers visited community members and undertook raids in the area.

Over the weekend Msholozi was a hive of police activity as officers from the White River Police Station embarked on a door-to-door campaign.
This was part of their efforts to educate the community on domestic violence during the 16 Days of Activism for no Violence Against Women and Children.

Police officers approached community members and handed out flyers informing them about topics such as the 16 days campaign, how to combat crime and how the police could assist them.

They were accompanied by representatives of Child Welfare and the South African National Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependence (SANCA), as children are hugely affected by domestic violence and alcohol plays a big role in the related crimes.
The officers also conducted a routine operation, as Msholozi is a problematic area in terms of the number of cases reported.

Six shops were closed because they were trading without a licence. One person was arrested for possession of and dealing in drugs and another for burglary. One person was also apprehended for selling liquor without a licence, the shebeen was closed and the alcohol seized.

White River SAPS spokesman WO Gugulethu Phiri also reported that a woman (23) was arrested for murder on December 4. She had reportedly dumped her baby into a pit toilet after giving birth.

The suspect, who appeared in the White River Magistrate’s Court the next day, is being detained in until her next appearance.

White River SAPS management would like to send out their sincere gratitude to the community members of White River who continue to go out of their way to help police combat crime in the area.  “We hope to see this dedication from the community continuing into the future. We wish everyone a merry Christmas and a prosperous new year filled with safety and peace of mind.”
