Fire at Liquor City

The fire was brought under control at around 23:00 but the store had already sustained a lot of damage

Burgersfort – A fire broke out in Liquor City last week Thursday. No one was injured during the fire, but the business suffered severe damage in the fire.

Protect Security responded to an alarm at the store around 19:25. “My response unit rushed to the scene after one of the alarms in the store went off. When they got there smoke was billowing from the roof. They immediately notified the Tubatse Fire Station. When the fire department reached the scene, we had to assist them as they were not fully equipped,” said Christo van Graan, owner of Protect Security.

The fire was brought under control at around 23:00 but the store had already sustained a lot of damage. Xstrata Lion Ferrochrome projects division also arrived at the scene to provide assistance.

“Investigations by the Burgersfort forensic department and insurance companies, Zurich and Santam into the cause of the fire are still underway. As soon as we receive the report, we will be starting with the cleaning and rebuilding process as we plan to re-open as soon as possible. This is a real disaster for our store,” reported Len De Atouguia, director of Liquor City.

Const Victoria Maluleka of the local police said that a case was opened and their forensic team was still investigating the matter.
