Five lives claimed just before Christmas
Four adults and a child die in a head-on collision just outside the city.
MBOMBELA – A head-on collision on the R37 toward Sabie just outside the city claimed five lives, including that of a child, yesterday (Monday) afternoon.
According to reports by Mbombela ER Services the one vehicle, a Range Rover, had one occupant who escaped with minor injuries. The other vehicle, an Isuzu double-cab, contained six occupants, one of whom was a child.
Mr Greg Wilcox of the ER Services was called to the scene. He says four people, including the child, died on the scene. One person died at Rob Ferreira Hospital later the afternoon and one person broke a leg.
Mbombela SAPS are investigating the cause of the accident. “All we can say so far is the person responsible will face charges of culpable homicide,” said SAPS spokesman Capt Dawie Pretorius.
The accident happened 10 kilometres outside the city, around 15:00 yesterday afternoon. Both cars bore Mpumalanga registration plates.
The victims’ identities will only be released after relatives have identified the bodies.
Post mortems will reveal the causes of death.
