
MBOMBELA – Traffic on the N4 has increased significantly as holidaymakers are returning home from .holiday destinations.
According to the TRAC (Trans African Concessions) Twitter page the N4 will be extremely busy as motorists return to Gauteng from Mozambique.
Traffic volumes are currently increasing in a westbound direction with 1 580 vehicles having passed through the Middelburg, 1 110 through Machado and 564 through Nkomazi Plaza’s by 13:15 today, according to TRAC’s Twitter feed.
There has been a few incidents and accidents on the N4 yesterday, with an accident at Goedewil in the Schoemankloof area momentarily holding up traffic. Two vehicles were involved. One person sustained serious injuries and three others were only slightly injured. They were all treated on the scene.
Yesterday at 16:00 four vehicles were involved in an accident between Machadodorp and Milly’s filling station. Only one person was slightly injured.
Today at around 17:00 there was an accident between Cairn and Alkmaar on the N4 with one serious injury. The road has since been cleared.
A TRACAssist and accident response team will be on duty for the duration of the weekend to assist motorists.
Border posts at Lebombo and Ressano Garcia are also extremely busy. Activities at these posts are however effectively being managed.
Motorists are urged to obey the rules of the road and to be patient at all times.
