Panga-gang case postponed to Wednesday

As on Friday, community members showed up in numbers at the court to oppose bail.

BARBERTON – The case against the five men accused of terrorizing residents in the area was postponed to Wednesday, January 14 for mitigation and finalization.
The five – Cyprian Manda, Skhumbuzo Chauke, Lawrence Mavimbela, Prince Fakude and Surprise Mnisi appeared before a security tight Barberton Magistrate’s Court today.
Once more, community members showed up in numbers to oppose the bail.

Magistrate’ Thulile Mthethwa wanted the case to be postponed to Thursday. But all the accused, who has already pleaded to the charge of carrying dangerous weapons, requested the court to postpone to tomorrow as they “have been kept in custody for a long time though they have already pleaded guilty”.
“Your application to have the case postponed to tomorrow has been successful. You will be remanded into custody and for finalization and mitigation your cases will rollover to tomorrow,” she said.
