School bid 2014 grade 12 learners farewell
“We want our learners to be aware of the new journey they embark on, to make sure that they know what to expect.
SKHILA – Skhila Secondary School bid farewell to the 2014 matric class on Saturday. Some of the learners attended the send-off with their parents, however, most have already left for tertiary studies.
The few that attended seemed happy to be part of the occasion to celebrate the 91 per cent pass rate in the school. Mr Gerald Mokoena, the principal, said he was pleased with the results. “The learners have reached the target that was set for them and as a school we saw it fit to bit them farewell with a celebration,” said Mokoena.
The purpose was also to prepare them for their tertiary studies. “We want our learners to be aware of the new journey they embark on, to make sure that they know what to expect. Most learners are not aware of the challenges that people face when they go to tertiary. We wanted to warn them not to waste their parent’s money by focusing on having fun more than attending classes and not to fall for the peer pressure trap.”
A former learner Prince Maroga was the guest speaker and is currently serving articles as an auditor. The principal said he would like to urge the pupils to make him proud. “I hope my learners go out there and make me a proud principal.”
