SKHILA – A man was shot and wounded by two men during a house robbery while trying to save his neighbours last Tuesday morning. Mr Samuel Nkuna lives in a compound at Skhila and shares a yard with two women.
Ms Simangele Lukhele, one of the two women, said two armed robbers broke into their house and shot Nkuna, “They shot him on their way out after they took our belongings,” Lukhele added.
According to her the robbers gained access to the house by breaking the door with a rock. “My sister heard them when they broke into the house. I was fast asleep and my sister woke me up. When I opened my eyes, I found them standing holding big guns,” she said.
“I remember that morning very well but I didn’t see their faces, since the two men wore balaclavas and they even disguised their voices.” My sister and I didn’t know what to do and started screaming out of fear. I believe that is when Nkuna heard us.”
The suspects took valuables which are worth thousands of rand and R200 in cash from the victim’s wallet. “They took our things and there was absolutely nothing we could do about it.”
It is alleged that the robbers shot Nkuna on their way out of the house.
According to Lukhele, immediately after the robbers left, they heard Nkuna screaming for help. “We ran outside and found him lying on the ground and screaming in agony,” she said.
According to Capt Mabokalake Mashabela, communications officer at Lydenburg SAPS, the police are currently searching for the suspects.
“Over the weekend we received a tip-off informing us that they were seen in Mashishing, however, by the time we arrived they were not there.”
“As the police we would like to urge the community to be extra careful because the suspects are armed and could be dangerous.” According to Mashabela, Nkuna is recovering in hospital.
