Intelligent learner pleads for a bursary
“I applied for almost all bursaries at the mines, but they never responded. All I want now is an opportunity to further my studies,” said the determined matriculant from Ga Mashamothane near town.
BURGERSFORT – He is one of the best matric learners in the Greater Tubatse Municipality (GTM), but Thabo Kopane (19) cannot pay for further study towards his dream qualification in chemical engineering.
The dedicated Kopane received distinctions in six of his seven subjects – English, maths, physical science, geography, life orientation and life sciences. He has been accepted to study at the University of Cape town but does not have the funds to register. His parents passed away years ago and his guardian, his aunt, is unable to afford the university fees.
“I applied for almost all bursaries at the mines, but they never responded. All I want now is an opportunity to further my studies,” said the determined matriculant from Ga Mashamothane near town.
Principal at St Thomas College, Mr Samuel George, is pleading with local business owners, the mines and the municipality to offer Kopane the opportunity he is seeking.
“He was always the first to come to school and the last to leave. It was not by fluke that he achieved these magnificent results. This boy always put his studies first. He always consulted his teachers when he had problems with his school work. I wish a good Samaritan would come to our rescue and ensure he registers at UCT,” pleaded the principal. Companies and business people wishing to help Kopane, can call George on 013-231-8391 or contact Kopane on 078-444-1666.
