VIDEO: Driver of burning BMW X6 makes it out unscathed

When the driver noticed a flame erupting on the left side of his car, he jumped out of the vehicle and ran for his life.

MBOMBELA – Motorists were shocked to see a BMW X6 on fire on the R40 across Standard Bank Riverside on Saturday. The driver was able to escape the luxury vehicle and the fire was extinguished by employees from surrounding businesses.

“I’ve been driving this car for five years and took it for a service on January 28,” owner Mr Midas Ndlovu told Lowvelder on Saturday.”

“The BMW garage phoned me on Friday to confirm that my car was ready and I confirmed that I would collect the vehicle today (Saturday).”

Ndlovu collected his serviced X6 and took it for a test drive to the showground. He planned to return to BMW Eastview before taking his car home.

“It was when I approached the traffic lights next to Standard Bank Riverside that I smelled petrol fumes. The next moment I noticed a flame on the left hand side of my car. I jumped out of the vehicle and ran to Nelspruit Auto to ask them if they had a fire extinguisher. People from other businesses came with fire extinguishers and put out the fire,” Ndlovu said. “Although I cannot confirm what the cause of the fire was, I do know that the car’s fuel injectors were replaced when it was serviced and this may have caused the fire,” he said yesterday.
