MBOMBELA – The case of Mr Dino Mbhandze, who fell through the roof of Crossing SUPERSPAR, was transferred to another district courtroom when he appeared in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Mbhandze (36) faces charges of theft and housebreaking, after his alleged break-in where he literally fell through the roof, attracted much attention in December.
A man reported to be Mbhandze appears on CCTV footage that was taken by the security cameras installed in Crossing SUPERSPAR on the morning of December 23.
The footage portrays a suspect suddenly falling through the store’s ceiling in the tobacco and cigarettes section. He lands on the floor with a thud, followed by some dust and debris.
Minutes later, officials of Hi-Tech Security Nelspruit arrive at the scene where an amusing sight awaits them.
The alleged thief had fallen about four metres and was unconscious. He was taken into custody and spent Christmas and New Year’s Day in jail, where he had been ever since. His court appearance last Thursday was brief and the case was transferred to another district court for a trial date to be fixed.
At the time of going to print, Mbhandze’s trial date has not been confirmed.
