Following the so-called illegal strike action, several municipal community-services employees came off scot-free. A total of 35 firefighters and traffic officers were initially suspended in November after some of them embarked on two protests. Another three were later suspended.
Lowvelder previously reported on how they held the former acting municipal manager, Mr Sello Ditshego, hostage in his office because they said their grievances were not being heard. These included overtime pay for firefighters, the position of the formerly suspended traffic chief, Mr Eddie Prollius and the appointment of 24 specialised security officers in October.
The suspended employees returned to work last Monday after the disciplinary processes had been completed, with the exception of three.
Municipal spokesman, Mr Joseph Ngala said 35 of the 38 suspended, were back at work.
“The matter has been finalised for the employees except for three whose matters are still pending finalisation. No one has been dismissed so far,” Ngala said.
