De Villiers confident on world cup victory

Springbok and Stormers captain, Jean de Villiers is confident that despite Jaque Fourie's retirement from international rugby, the national squad stands a great shot in the upcoming world cup.

Springbok and Stormers captain, Jean de Villiers is confident that despite Jaque Fourie’s retirement from international rugby, the national squad stands a great shot in the upcoming world cup.

This came to light on Thursday evening during De Villers’ visit in the Onderberg.
He was speaking during a questions-and-answer session held at Hamilton Restaurant in Malalane, at a wealth management dinner hosted by Citadel.

De Villiers explained the reason for Fourie’s retirement and stated that his unavailability for the world cup wasn’t yet set in stone.“That was for him a life decision and a life style decision.

He is based in Japan now. Him and his wife have been trying to fall pregnant for a very long time, and eventually she is pregnant. And their club in Japan assisted with that, because he moved there basically so he could be with his wife more,” De Villiers explained.

He said no one is irreplaceable and the guys currently on the squad are capable of performing.
He said, “You never know, we might get him or we might not get him. There are a couple of others that can do the job, there are guys that can fill the gap. At the end of the day no one is irreplaceable, by the time the world cup comes we will have the best team available, and we will go and win it.
