MBOMBELA – After almost eight years at the helm of the DA in Mpumalanga, Mr Anthony Benadie is stepping down as the party’s provincial leader.
The Provincial Congress to elect a new leadership is being held at Ingwenyama Conference Centre on Saturday.
Federal leader, Ms Helen Zille and federal chairman Mr Wilmot James are expected to attend.
“This will be the DA’s biggest Provincial Congress to date and will be attended by 410 voting delegates who will elect the new leadership and take part in the robust debate on shaping the DA’s future,” the party said in a statement.
Member of parliament (MP) Mr James Masango will stand unopposed as provincial leader and member of the provincial legislature (MPL) Ms Jane Sithole is standing unopposed to be the party’s next provincial chairman.
MP Ms Sonja Boshoff and Nkomazi Local Municipality councillor Mr Alex Maphanga will contest for the deputy provincial leader position.
The position of deputy provincial chairman is being contested by MPL Mr Bosman Grobler and Mbombela Local Municipality councillor Mr Ken Robertson.
