HECTORSPRUIT – The illegal dumping of building rubble has been plaguing some residents of the town and is creating a filthy and unkempt image of this small town.
After a complaint by a local resident and businessman regarding illegal building rubble dumping, Corridor Gazette discovered more unsightly venues in the town.
Hectorspruit is currently experiencing a boom in housing development, but the state of the environment is not conducive to its continuance. Rusted and dilapidated caravans are also an eyesore in First Street which is in direct contrast to the upmarket homes being built in the area. Where areas were cleared of grass, it was simply dumped on the streets.
“The rubble is disgusting and poses an environmental risk to the community. It is illegal to dump building rubble anywhere you please,” he said.
Building rubble has been present for a number of months in the area, with weeds growing out of the cement. According to Mr Cyril Ripinga, spokesman for Nkomazi Local Municipality (NLM), council has not been aware of the problem, but will address it.
