Young man loses his life on Sheba Road

Button was freed from the wreckage, but sustained serious injuries and died on arrival at the hospital.

On Thursday at approximately 21:00 a young man, Douglas William Button (19), lost his life in an accident on Sheba Road. Button and his cousin, Desmond Deysel (27) were travelling in the direction of the intersection at Mediclinic when Deysel lost control of the vehicle, a grey VW Polo.

According to a SAPS official, an eyewitness who was also travelling on Sheba Road, said the VW Polo passed him at a high speed before the accident happened.

Button was freed from the wreckage, but sustained serious injuries and died on arrival at the hospital.
Deysel was nowhere to be found after the accident. It was believed that he fled the scene, possibly as the result of shock.

On Friday morning, however, Deysel commented on Facebook that he ran to get help as his cousin didn’t want to wake up. He wrote that there was a lot of blood and that he was confused. He said he ran to a friend’s house to get help and they took him to hospital.
Button resided on Fairview Mine with family.
