When Corridor Gazette spent a morning at the three-way crossing in Rissik Street which leads to the mall and garage, we realised with shock just how dangerous it was for pedestrians.
Busco busses drop off workers on the small gravel section next to the road, literally a few metres from the busy intersection.
Pedestrians then cross Rissik Street in the face of oncoming traffic and drivers have to be extremely diligent and aware in order not to run them over.
The newspaper’s photographer was at the intersection from 07:00 on March 9 and photos attest to the extremely dangerous situation which may not just lead to a crash, but could cost the lives of innocent people.
Swanepoel suffered extensive damage to his car when a motorbike crashed into the back of his vehicle when he suddenly had to brake to avoid hitting a pedestrian who had just alighted from a bus.
This stop has been a bone of contention for some time and it was out of desperation and fear for the safety of his fellow road users, that Swanepoel contacted the paper.
Other pedestrians simply ignore oncoming traffic talking to friends parked in the same dangerous spot.
