The municipality recently sent out a press release regarding suspects that are committing fraud by impersonating municipal employees. They reportedly target unemployed and vulnerable community members and promise them employment at the municipality. These suspects demand that money ranging between amounts of R3 000 and R5 000 be paid via deposits at retail shops before a job can be granted.
The municipality condemned these actions and urged victims of fraud such as this to report it to the police. If community members know of individuals committing fraud or corruption, it should also be reported to SAPS.
According to the municipality the approved selection and recruitment policy is in place and strictly adhered to. This means that vacancies are advertised, applicants go through a short-listing process and then get invited for interviews prior to employment.
